The International Energy Agency (IEA) has revised its solar deployment forecasts upward following a record 350 GW of new capacity added globally in 2025. Falling module prices, improved supply chains, and strengthened policy support in emerging markets drove the surge.
China — Remains the dominant market with over 200 GW of new installations, bringing cumulative capacity to over 800 GW. Utility-scale projects dominate, though rooftop solar continues to grow rapidly.
United States — The Inflation Reduction Act continues to drive deployment, with utility-scale solar additions exceeding 40 GW. Supply chain diversification has reduced reliance on Chinese modules.
Europe — Solar additions reached 70 GW, with Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands leading. The EU's REPowerEU targets are being exceeded ahead of schedule.
Emerging markets — India, Brazil, and Turkey are among the fastest-growing markets. Turkey added 8 GW in 2025, bringing total solar capacity to 28 GW.
