Turkey has become the second-largest producer of geothermal electricity in Europe, with installed capacity exceeding 1.7 GW. Western Anatolia hosts world-class geothermal resources, with the Menderes Graben and Gediz Graben among the most productive regions.

Power generation — Geothermal power plants provide baseload electricity with high capacity factors. Binary cycle technology is widely used, allowing exploitation of lower-temperature resources. Direct use for district heating and greenhouses is also significant.

Investment — Both domestic and international developers are active. New permits and drilling are expanding the resource base. Environmental considerations, including reinjection and emissions management, are integrated into project design.

Outlook — The government targets 3 GW of geothermal capacity by 2030. With continued investment and favourable geology, Turkey is well positioned to become a regional leader in geothermal energy.
